According to my grandmother's journal (Eva Mae Easton, Alma's sister), Alma was born February 12, after they had left Polk County, Iowa, so it had to be 1901 (the family was listed in the June 1900 Census (Alma had not been born by then) and died in the smallpox outbreak in Pratt, Kansas., in 1902. Lula-Mae Ellen Pratt (the children's mother) had been vaccinated as a child. Her husband (the children's father), Ozro James Easton, their son, Ora, and daughters Eva Mae, and Alma all contracted small pox. They were taken to an Isolation ward (called The Pest House). Alma succumbed to the disease.
