Alexandria — Carolyn R. (Ty) Stephens, age 90, of Alexandria, Ala., passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.


Ty was born on the family farm in Alexandria in 1916 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Leander Robertson. She grew up in Piedmont and graduated from Jacksonville High School. She attended Montevallo College and graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1936. She was married for 56 years to Col. (Ret) Louis Bell Stephens, of Lineville, who preceded her in death. The Stephens lived many years in Lineville and while there, she taught school in Craigford. When Col. Stephens returned to the service, she became an Army wife, living in Texas, Arkansas, Germany and Fort McClellan. After retiring from the service, the Stephens family moved back to the family farm in Alexandria, where she lived for 43 years. Ty taught school in White Plains, Fort McClellan and Saks. She loved her family, her many friends and the farm.


She is survived by a son, Louis B. Stephens, Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; and two daughters, Anne Stephens Carruth, of Alexandria and Hope Stephens Duve, of Huntsville; four grandchildren....;and a great-granddaughter,....


She also had four caregivers Jean Atherton, Julia Johnson, Jean Jennings and Amy Webb, who cared for her faithfully and lovingly.


In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to the Salvation Army or Sight Savers of Alabama.
