"Rob" worked in the textile mills most of his life in Rocky Mount. At one point he was a foreman at GARY STEEL testing tankers for the US AIR FORCE. He also worked as a mechanic at Proctor's Pure Service,18 yrs,and 5 yrs,with the City of Rocky Mount. As a young man when his children were very small he served in the United States Army,381st infantry,co.G. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal. as a Priv.1st class Rifleman,{Sharpshooter}.He served in the Phillipians on Mindoro Island, which was used as an aircraft staging area by General McArthur to bomb Manilla for it's liberation in '44 &'45.Two of his quotes were "I just wanted to go home and be with my children,"and " We've got so many experts most of them are little sperts and they don't even know it." Most did not know, he served in the MILITARY POLICE for the u.s. army.
