William J. "Bill" Campbell, Jr. – 1921-2007

PLANO, Texas – William J. "Bill" Campbell, Jr., 85, died Sept. 4, 2007, at Irving, Texas. He was born Nov. 29, 1921, at Waynesfield, Ohio. Mr. Campbell came to Great Bend, Kan., during World War II, being stationed with the 873rd Bomb Squadron, 498th Bomb Group, 73rd Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force, at the Great Bend Army Air Field. He then served the United States Army Air Force in Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands, in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Prior to overseas duties, Campbell married Georgia Louise Gilmore on Dec. 27, 1943, at Great Bend, Kansas.

He lived in Great Bend, Wichita, Kansas City, Oklahoma City and, most recently, Plano, Texas.

Campbell is survived by his wife, Georgia, of the home; three daughters, Susan Kay Lamkins of Olathe, Kan., Marcia Ann Campbell of Plano, Texas, and Jane Lee Harris of Leavenworth, Kan.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Additonal survivors include a sister-in-law, Connie Rube of Great Bend.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held Friday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. at Restland Cemetery, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.
