James Forrest Knappen, born in San Jose, CA on October 11, 1933, died on June 9, 2011 at Paradise Hospice. He was 77.

Jim grew up in Central California. After high school he spent ten years in the US Air Force, and was employed in retail sales following his discharge.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Richard (Cheryl) and David (Susan) Knappen; daughter, Andrea (Dave) Neault; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Jim and Margaret retired to Paradise from Salinas, CA in 1995.

During his adult years, Jim served as a scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America; was a deacon, elder and choir member in his church; enjoyed reading; wrote short stories; rode a motorcycle for several years; and was actively involved in Paradise Friends of the Library. He treasured his family, friends and country.

A Celebration of Jim's Life was held at Craig Memorial Congregational Church in Paradise on Saturday, June 25, 2011. His cremains were interred in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon on Friday, July 8, 2011.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Christian Encounter Ministries, P.O. Box 1022, Grass Valley, CA 95945, or to your favorite charity.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Neptune Society.
