Flora M. Cary, 105, of North Street, Housatonic, a retired employee of Anaconda Corp. in New York City, died Monday in a local nursing home.
She retired as head of the company's secretarial pool in the 1960s. She worked previously at the former Lennon's Drug Store in Housatonic.
She was born in the Turners Falls section of Montague during a snowstorm on Feb. 21, 1888. (The Great Blizzard of '88 which paralyzed the East occurred that March).
Miss Cary lived in Housatonic most of her life, and was graduated from the former Searles High School in 1908.
She lived in White Plains, N.Y., before returning to Housatonic. She participated on one of the first all-women's basketball teams in the country.
She was a member of the Housatonic Congregational Church, and the First Resistance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Great Barrington. She was a former member and chorister of the Church of the Highlands in White Plains.
Her twin sister, Florence Reinhart, died in 1981. She leaves several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Friday afternoon at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral.
