William R. Welch, Sr., age 90, died Wednesday, December 26, 1990, at Meriter-Park Hospital in Madison after a brief illness. He was born on 22 March 1900, in Madison, Wisconsin to John H. Sr. and Mary (White) Welch of Westport, Wisconsin. Having lived and grown up in Westport, William served in the U.S. Army during World War I and World War II in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. William also assisted his brother, Leo F. Welch, in managing the Ace of Clubs and later Welch's Embers on E. Washington Avenue in Madison. He was a Life-Time Member of the American Legion in Cross Plains, Wisconsin.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Doris Welch (nee Manthe) of Madison; and three grandsons, Timothy (Ranee) of Beaver Dam; Robert (Deborah) currently stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Scott (Sun Sook) currently stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps in Dubuque, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral mass 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 1990 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in East Troy, Wisconsin. Father John Twomey officiating. Visitation 11:00 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at the Andrews Funeral Home in East Troy, Wisconsin. Memorials appreciated to the Colonial Club Senior Citizens Center in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
