WILEY METCALF, 95, FOUND DEAD

ERWIN - A 95-year-old man was found dead in a wooded area above Flag Pond near the North Carolina state line yesterday morning.

Wiley Metcalf, who had been missing since Sunday, was found by his brother, Gaither Metcalf.

Metcalf, who returned from Oregon two weeks ago, where he had been staying with a daughter, was last seen at a relative's home just before noon Sunday.

He had apparently started back to his brother's house and had been walking through the woods rather than along the Asheville highway.

Assistant Coroner Dr. R. M. Glatow said that death was probably from a heart attack.

Foul play in Metcalf's death was ruled out by the coroner.

None of Metcalf's personal belongings was disturbed including money in his billfold.

Investigating officers were State Trooper George W. Logan, Chief of Police Leonard Guinn and Constable Clyde Mathes.
