Michael H. Burton, 62, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
Michael was a lifelong resident of Ontario, Ore., and was born on May 17, 1949 in Boise, Idaho. The oldest of three children to Earl and Marjorie Burton. He attended Ontario High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
Mike was married Oct. 4, 1986 to Elva Pena. They happily resided in Ontario, Ore.
He enjoyed life, especially the outdoors, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, camping and trips to the Oregon Coast, were some of his favorites.
Mike had a gruff exterior but a heart of gold and was a big teddy bear to all who knew him. He never met a stranger, he was a friend to everyone. His family and friends knew him to be generous and a loving person.
Mike accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior several years ago and would share his love for the Lord with anyone he came across. People came to know him as the man that had the "Wooden Cross Ministries". He carried with him wood cross necklaces and would distribute them, wherever he found himself, taking the opportunity to share the love of Christ and give the testimony of his salvation. He was so grateful to God for saving him and would often say that he couldn't wait to get his new body.
Mike is survived by his wife, Elva Pena Burton; his brothers, Robert Burton, Nampa, and Jim Burton, Meridian.
He is preceded in death by his father, Earl M. Burton and his mother, Marjorie Burton.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Ontario.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Highway Assembly of God in Fruitland, Idaho.
Arrangements are under the direction of Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Ontario.
