Larry R. Brumley, 82, of 212 E. Fairchild, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Brumley was the owner and operator of Iowa City Roofing and Siding Co. for 25 years. Services will be Wednesday at George L. Gay Funeral Home, with burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Brumley was born May 26, 1911, in Jearaldstown, Tenn., to John and Amanda (Tadlock) Brumley. He married Mary Ellen Connell in 1936. He was a flight instructor during World War II, teaching American and British cadets formation flying and combat aerobatics. he later owned and operated Brumley's Flying Service and was a commercial pilot examiner in Nashville. He moved to Iowa City in 1949, and started his roofing and siding company here.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Roy L. Chopek Post No. 17.
Survivors include his wife of Iowa City; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Brumley of Iowa City, and Terry and Karen Brumley of Denver, Colorado.; one sister, Lucy Handt of Waterloo; and four grandchildren.
Eight sisters and four brothers died earlier.
