She loved the country and in 1982, she and her husband Richard purchased a home in in Winlock, Lewis County Washington. She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She often canned her own fruits and vegetables and was an excellent cook.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Napavine and a past Noble Grand.
More than anything, she loved her family, her parents, siblings, children and the many people close to her that even though they weren't blood related she considered them family. She raised eight children but was considered "Mom and Grandma and GG" to many more.
Richard passed in 2002 and a short time later Shirley was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She spent the next few years going back and forth between Winlock and Seattle and then needing to be closer to her children, she let go of her home in the country and moved to Federal Way, Washington.
With a very strong will to win the battle against the insidious disease called cancer she fought a very hard battle for 7-1/2 years. In the early morning hours of September 7, 2010 the power of the disease overpowered her will to live and at 10:35 in the morning she left this world and went to live with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Survived by eight children, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, one brother and numerous neices and nephews.
