MAN HAS ATTACK,
THEN HE WRECKS

An elderly salesman suffered a heart attack and then wrecked his automobile on a Beckley street.

He stumbled from the vehicle, surveyed the damage and minutes later he was pronounced dead.

Exact caude of death was undetermined.

Beckley police identified the victim as 87-year old Robert S. Taylor of 1905 S. Kanawha St.

Officers said his 1939 model car turned up a hill on South Fayette Street after leaving Beaver Avenue. It struck a guy wire at the two streets' intersection, spun around and careened over a short but steep bank and crashed against a tree.

A witness said Taylor got out of the car, looked at it and then collapsed. Members of the city rescue squad were summoned to the scene and reported that attempts to administer oxygen to him were futile, since Taylor had died.

Police said Taylor suffered an apparent heart attack and possible internal injuries but nothing definite could be learned late Wednesday. The mishap occurred about 7:30 p.m.

Little damage was done to the car, although wrecker crews had to tow it up the hill.

Taylor was an active salesman and member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley.

The body is a Melton Mortuary, pending completion of arrangements.
