Robert Herman Zimmer, 77, St. James, formerly of Washington, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, in St. James.
Mr. Zimmer was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Washington, the son of the late George Zimmer and wife Wilhelmina, nee Richter.
He received his education at Immanuel Lutheran Grade School, Washington, and graduated from Washington High School in 1951.
Mr. Zimmer served his country in the U.S. Army from Oct. 27, 1954, to Aug. 1, 1956. He also was in the Army Reserve Unit for eight years.
He was employed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, St. Louis, and Binkley, Warrenton.
Mr. Zimmer was preceded in death by one son, Donald Zimmer; and one brother, John Zimmer.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Zimmer and Angela Aholt, both of Washington, and Terry Sullivan and husband Patrick, Wright City; his daughters' mother and his friend, Linda Hoppe, Washington; three grandchildren, Chasity Metzger and husband Rick, Brandon Aholt and Ryan Aholt; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 26, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington, with the Rev. Mark Bangert officiating.
Burial was in Green Mound Cemetery, St. Clair.
Memorials to the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James are preferred.
