Dwight Fielding Akery, of Madison, Alabama, formerly of Dixon, was born on March 20, 1926, the first child of Clyde Fielding and Myrtle Malee (Long) Akery, and departed this life at 4:08 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in the Crestwood Medical Center, Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Akery had attained the age of 85 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Mr. Akery was united in marriage on June 7, 1947, at Olathe, Kansas to Miss Lois Lorraine Erickson and to this union two children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 2, 2011 and his parents.

Mr. Akery was born in Michigan, but his family moved back to the Dixon area when he was very young. He grew up on the farm and attended Liberty school as a child; he later attended and graduated from Dixon High School. After high school, Mr. Akery enlisted in the United States Navy and served 20 months in the South Pacific during World War II. After his discharge he returned to court the woman he loved and to take up a new career as a heating and air-conditioning repairman. He worked in this field most of his adult life.

Mr. Akery accepted Jesus shortly after being married and has endeavored to serve to the best of his abilities as a Sunday school teacher and Board of Trustees member. The other great joys of his life were fishing; bluegrass fiddle music; and attending the Dixon Bluegrass festivals to listen to fiddlers at the jam sessions. He would rather be fishing than just about anything else.

Those left to cherish the memories of Mr. Akery include: one son and daughter-in-law...; one daughter and son-in-law...; one sister and brother-in-law...; five grandchildren...; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and friend, Mr. Akery will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services and interment with full military honors were conducted for Mr. Akery at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011, in the Seaton Cemetery, near Dixon, with Beverly Sharp, Dixon, officiating. Dixon American Legion Post No. 298 provided military honors.
