Joseph Ovel Alvey, 68, of Rt. 1, Clarkson, died August 25, 1984 at his residence. Mr. Alvey was born March 16, 1916 in Grayson County, the son of Bill Alvey and Cora Grant Alvey. His wife, Lizzie Ann Alvey, deceased. Survivors include: one son Ernie Alvey, of Leitchfield, eight daughters, Burnette Reed, Katherine Chambers and Geneva Higdon, all of Shelbyville, Ind., Effie Sandlin, of Leitchfield, Helen Clemons and Lillie Mae Sandlin, both of Louisville, Wilma Dean Neafus, of Allgood, Tenn., and Mary Faye VanMeter, of Clarkson; one step-daughter, Mary Ailene Strader of Ind; two brothers, Willard Alvey, of Clarkson, and Dillard Alvey, of Wax; three sisters, Renie Clemons, of Clarkson, Oliva Hazelwood and Juanita Jamison, both of Louisville, 32 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held August 28 at the St. Benedict Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Miller officiating. Burial in St. Benedict Cemetery.
