Daughter of Albert and Willie Penny Newton
She married Merle Johnson October 3, 1947, in McKenzie, Tennessee. They made their home in Clinton. They also spent several years in the Garland and Good Hope communities. During World War II she worked at the Getty Airplane Factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Northeast Baptist Church. Henrietta was a homemaker, an avid reader and gardener. If you were around her much, you know how she loved to sing - entertaining her family and more recently her caregivers at the Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Her parents; one son, David Johnson, one brother, James A. Newton; one sister, Onola Mullins; one grandson, Michael Escalante, and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Burke, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Merle, of the home; one son, Ronald Johnson, Beardstown, Illinois; three daughters, Etta Merle Heizman and husband, John, Lancaster, Ohio, Dixie Escalante, Urich, and Ruth Johnson, Clinton; three brothers, Alfred Newton and wife, Lois, William Newton and wife, Mildred, Bobby Joe and wife, Jo, all of McKenzie, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, Steven Heizman, Matthew Heizman, Susan Kaiser, Douglas Burke, Debra Browning, Richard Young, Robert Young, Marcos Escalante, Arnold Johnson, David Johnson, Emm'et Johnson; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Henrietta will truly be missed and remembered by those who knew her. Funeral services were held May 28 at Northeast Baptist Church.
