Leonard W. Sporrer, 93, of
Dedham, died Monday, Nov.
17, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional
Hospital at Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial
will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov.
21, at St. Joseph Church at
Dedham. The Rev. Anthony
Pick, assisted by Deacon Louis
Meiners, will officiate.
Visitation will begin at 3:30
p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, with a
rosary at 4 p.m. by the Templeton
Knights of Columbus and
a Christian wake service at 7
p.m. by St. Joseph Parish, at the
Sharp Funeral Home at Carroll.
The casket will be moved to the
church at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 17.
Burial will be in St. Joseph
Cemetery at Dedham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be left at the funeral home
or church for the Dedham First
Responders.
Lectors will be Irish
Wieland-Iingenfelter, Bev
Ramsey, Joel Plug and Jennifer
Handles. Gift bearers will
be Marin Sporrer, LaVonne
Thobe, Jan Wieland, Joan Irlmeier
and Cletus Sporrer. Mass

A son of Joseph and Rose
(Sextro) Sporrer, he was born
Sept. 10, 1915, at Dedham. He
spent his lifetime in the Dedham
community and attended
St. Joseph School.
On Oct. 27, 1936, he married
Sabina Heithoff at Sacred
Heart Church in Templeton.
The couple farmed west of
Dedham until 1945, when they
moved to Dedham and owned
and operated the meat market.
In 1954, they left the meat
market and moved back to
the farm, where they resided
until their retirement in 1971,
at which time they moved to
their home in Dedham.
In addition to farming, Mr.
. Sporrer operated a bulldozing
business for many years.
He was a member of St. Joseph
Parish, the Knights of Columbus,
the Dedham Booster Club and the Carroll County
Fair Board. He was elected to
the Carroll County Board of Supervisors
in 1974, serving until
1992 and was a former member
of the Dedham School Board,
the Dedham City Council, the
Carroll County Soil Conservation
Board and the Des Moines
Watershed Committee. He
enjoyed horses, hunting and
practicing soil conservation.

Mr. Sporrer was preceded
in death by his parents; his
wife, Sabina; a daughter, Joyce
Irlmeier; a son, Jerry Sporrer;
two sons in infancy; three
sons-in-law: Don Wanninger,
John Thobe and Gary Irlmeier;
a granddaughter, Mary Ann
Wanninger; two brothers, John
Sporrer and Clarence Sporrer;
and two sisters, Alma Forke
and Rosie Hacker.
