John Risen, son of Lars and Sigri Larson, was born in Sogn, Norway, April 25, 1855. At the age of 28 and in the year 1883 he came to America. He came to Capron, Illinois and on October 28, the same year, he was united in marriage with Olena Olson. A year and a half later they moved to the town of Naples, Wisconsin, where they bought a farm and lived on it for sixteen years; had it rented out for some time, but finally sold it to his son Bennie. He then rented the Huntington farm, which later on he bought. On this he made his home the rest of his days.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, six sons, Lewis, Gilbert, Sever, Bennie, Sam, Joseph, and three daughters; Bertha, Mrs. Albert Lawly; Tilda, Mrs. Ralph Severson; and Ida, Mrs. Palmer Gunderson, all of Mondovi; 27 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One son and three grandchildren preceded him in death.

Mr. Risen was a hard worker, devoted husband, and a kind and good father,

On October 8, 1933, Mr. and Mrs. Risen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and in their honor a program was rendered in West Bennet Valley Church, where the golden wedding took place.

On New Year's Eve, December 31, 1935, he had a mishap of falling which was followed by pneumonia. He recovered from the pneumonia, but his strength was gone and for six months and nine days he kept his bed until Wednesday afternoon, July 8, he was called to his heavenly home, at the age of 81 years, two months and sixteen days.

The funeral was held from his home and the West Bennet Valley Church on Saturday afternoon, July 11, conducted by his pastor, Reverend E.A. Norson, with a large attendance of friends and neighbors. Interment was made in the West Bennet Valley Cemetery.
