Olena Olson was born in Sogn, Norway, August 3, 1860. In 1883, at the age of 23 years, she came to America and located at Capron, Illinois. On October 8, the same year, she was married to John Risen. A year and a half later they moved to Wisconsin and settled in the town of Naples, where they bought a farm and made a home for themselves. On October 8, 1933 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the West Bennet Valley church with a program and supper given in their honor. On February 5 of this year Mrs. Risen went to stay with her son, Sever, and family and on Saturday morning, March 1, she passed peacefully away in her sleep at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 25 days. Her husband, one son and three grandchildren have preceded her in death. She is survived by six sons, Lewis, Gilbert, Sever, Bennie, Sam and Joseph, and three daughters, Bertha (Mrs. Albert Lovely), Tilda (Mrs. Ralph Severson), all of Mondovi and Ida (Mrs. Palmer Gunderson) of Eleva, 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and at 2:00 at the Bennet Valley church, Rev. E.A. Norson officiating, Burial was in the church cemetery.
