Vitya graduated from the Kiev Conservatory. She studied with pianists Alfred Cortot and Arthur Schnabel in Berlin, where she met Victor Babin. They married and became international duo piano partners. They both were on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music. Vitya was a judge for the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition. She was awarded the rank of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Humanities by the French Government. Both she and her husband were Steinway Immortals.
