Surviving are his wife; sons Brian (Evelyn) Stout of Elkhart, Kevin (Shana) Stout of Niles, Mich., Sean Baker of Tucson, Ariz., and Derek Baker of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter Heather Baker of Merced, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry.
He was a 1968 graduate of Elkhart Central High School and a 1994 graduate of IUSB, where he earned his labor studies B.S. He retired from Verizon in June 2007 after 37 years of service. He was a union area rep for the Local CWA 4773. He was involved with United Way, United Labor Agency, IUSB Peer Mentor Program, IUSB Labor Students Association and was a lecturer for IUSB Labor Studies program. He was recently involved with the Elkhart Salvation Army Advisory Board and Associated Federal Credit Union Board.
To honor Pat's wishes, no services will be held. Because of his passion for education, especially to IUSB, he donated his body to the IU Medical Center.
Memorials may be given to the Elkhart Salvation Army and to the Humane Society of Elkhart County because of his love for dogs, including his dog, Maggie, who was adopted from there.
