Ray Whitson, age 79 of Pate Creek Rd, Green Mountain, NC passed away July 28, 2011 at Mission Healthcare Memorial Campus in Asheville, NC. He was born in Mitchell County, NC to the late Calvin and Nerva Barnett Whitson. He was employed as a Truck Driver with Consolidated Freight in Charlotte, NC. He was a Veteran of The United States Army and a member of Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF&AM. He attended Huntdale Union Church and was a member of Pigeon Roost Brethren Church.
Survivors include his wife Nancy May Whitson, of the home, two daughters Katherine Whitson, of Stanley, NC, and Audrey Smith and husband Phil, of Iron Station, NC, three sons Anthony Whitson and wife Shirley, of Claxton, GA, Harlan Whitson and wife Cyndi, of Belmont, NC, and Eric Whitson and wife Tabitha, of Charlotte, NC, three sisters Shirley Hughes, of Bakersville, NC, Darlena Miller and Arlena Renfro, both of Johnson City, TN. one brother Lee Whitson, of Green Mountain, NC, fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary and Mae, and brothers, Cas, Starlin, Farrell and Charles.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 6:00PM until 9:00PM at Henline – Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline – Hughes Funeral Home with Blaine Whitson and Burnie Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Garland Whitson Cemetery (Beans Creek Rd), with Bakersville Masonic Lodge# 357 AF&AM conducting graveside services.
