Clay was born in 1918. Grave marker is wrong with year 1917. Clay was my step-father, He served aboard the USS Northampton prior to WWII. Went to Aviation Raidoman School in Pensicola FL when war broke out. He was a raidoman and rear gunner on the Douglas SBD Dauntless aircraft, first flying out of Floyd Bennett Field in New York, later out of Naval Air Station, Cape May, New Jersey. After WWII he served aboard an aircraft carrier in the Korean War. Clay retired as a Chief Aviation Radioman in 1959.
Clay married Verna (Houk) Bradford 5 Dec 1936 at San Francisco, CA.
