HOCHSTEDLER REUNION IS HELD

Fifty-six relatives and friends were in attendance at the Hochstedler reunion held in the Osceola Community Building July 13, 1997.

This was a very SPECIAL day for we were celebrating the 100th birthday of Lela (Squire) Hochstedler. She was born in July 25, 1897 near Gerster. In 1918, April 30, she married Roy Hochstedler. To this union nine children were born. Six sons and three daughters. One son, Dean, lives on the original family farm east of Osceola. Wallace was absent, due to his wife Jane being in Cox Hospital in Springfield. Three children are deceased, Alva, Ramon and Maxine.

Those present from out of state were Mike, Penny Uhl and Mindy; Topeka, KS; Jack Hochstedler, Tecumsie, KS.

From Missouri were Anna May Bonner, Windor, Noal Bacon, Independence; Wilbur Hochstedler, Independence; Edith Watkins, Polo; Elesa and Alex Garner, Butler; Aldin and Alma Keith, El Dorado Springs; Teresa Coale, El Dorado Springs; Melvin and Katie McCoy, Kansas City; Ellen Lesley, Kansas City; Darlene and Gary Scott, Gravois Mills; Gary and Dianne Rutledge, Gravois Mills; Mary Eslinger and Veronica Baker, Preston; Ansel, Barbara and Darla Hochstedler, Independence; Christine, Andy and Elizabeth Shephard, Camdenton; Lela (Squire) Hochstedler, Truman Lake Manor, Lowry City; Mark, Laurie and Katherine Nickless, DeSota; Bob, Pam, Bobby and Jessica Crowe, Weaubleau; Bernard and Bernieta H. Cone, Osceola; Dean and Francis Hochstedler, Osceola; Roger Hochstedler, Osceola; Tom and Marie H. Knight, Osceola; Ken and Kathy H. Tillotson, Osceola with their granddaughters, Misty, April, Stevia and Destiny; Rick and Linda Knight, Osceola; Berniece H. Gilbert, Osceola; Bill Goans and Aaron Coleman from Truman Lake Manor brought our beloved Lela to us in “Donna’s Dream” and enjoyed lunch with us all.

As Lela arrived, all sang Happy Birthday to her. Later after lunch, much visiting and picture taking were active.

One of Lela’s granddaughters, Penny Uhl, played her guitar, accompanied by Bernieta Cone (Niece) on her harmonica, Kathy Tillotson (Niece) on keyboard, entertaining all present; with Lela singing along with old time songs, she knew so well, having played organ and piano for many years.

Our love and prayers are with Lela as she celebrates her 100th July 25. One very special lady to us all!
