After an illness of but a few hours, J Edward Atha died at 3 o'clock Sunday morning at the Home hospital. He was prostrated by an acute attack of heart trouble in Russell K Bedgood's office in the National Fowler bank building and Dr Earl Van Reed worked with him until 11 o'clock before his condition would permit his removal to the hospital. Mr Atha had been troubled with valvular disease of the heart for more than a year, but his condition was not thought to be alarming.
He was born July 18, 1868, in West Liberty, Ohio and had lived in Lafayette for a number of years. He was a piano salesman and real estate agent and was well known in the city. He was a good salesman and had many friends.
A widow and three sons, Carleton, Ladoyt and Richard Atha, survive. He also leaves two brothers, Fred, of Illinois, and Ferd, of Ohio, and one sister, Miss Belle Atha, of Lima Ohio.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the residence. Rev F L Pettit, of the Christian church, officiated and the interment was in Springvale Cemetery.
