Obie Franklin Lam, 91, of Shenandoah, passed away, Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Lam was born Aug 15, 1919, in Page County and was the son of the late Burleigh Jackson and Evelne Gertrude Lam. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Marie Gooden Lam, Dec. 3 1995; a daughter, Norma Jean Breeden; a brother Howard Lam; and a sister, Rintha Morris.
Mr. Lam was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church on Washington Street in Harrisonburg. He served his county in the U.S. Army in World War II and had been employed by DuPlan in Grottes for six years and retired from Walker Manufacturing in 1981 after 21 years of service.
On Feb 15, 2001, he married Iva Mae Gochenour, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Good and husband, Ronnie, of Stanley. Judy Meadows and husband Bill, of Elkton; Stepdaughter, Lisa Foltz and husband, Eddie Lee Jr., of Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2011, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Revs. Pearl Richardson and James Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg with military rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the home of his wife and children at any time.
