LAKE VIEW, S.C. — Emily C. O'Boyle died April 29, 2010, at her daughter's home in Lake View after a long battle with cancer. She was with her four surviving children and several of her grandchildren at the time of her death.

The Lake View native was born July 31, 1929. As an Army wife, she lived all over the world and United States as she raised their five children. After her husband's retirement, she lived many years in Columbia and worked in real estate. Emily moved to Little River about 10 years ago, fulfilling a longtime dream of living at the beach. She lived a wonderful life marked by an indomitable spirit and a deep love for her children and many friends, who loved her deeply in return. She was a daughter of the late Sadie M. Carmichael and Albert Eugene Carmichael and the wife of the late Lt. Col. Peter A. O'Boyle. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene "Michael."

Funeral is at 4 p.m. EDT Sunday at Fork Presbyterian Church, with burial in Lake View Perpetual Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT today at the family home, 308 S. Main St. Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Fork Presbyterian Church in Fork, S.C., or the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her children, Peter and his wife, Sylvia, of Columbia, Kathy and her husband, James, of Lake View, Henry, of Little River, and Ann and her husband, William, of Bowling Green, Ky.; seven grandchildren; a brother, A.E. "Gene" Carmichael, of Lake View; and several close friends.
