Chares Leo Egan was born to John Egan & Delia Hughes Egan in Mitchell Township, Mitchell, Iowa.His grandfather John was born in County Clare, Ire. and married to Mary O'Connell McCarthy, cousin to Irish Patriot Daniel O'Connell. He was one of 10 children and a devoted son as well as husband to Mary Flora Brauch Egan. They had 4 children Mary Jane, Charles Edward, Edward Joseph, & Thomas Egan. He attended Business School in Ramsey, Minnesota and became a bookkeeper. 1910 he moved to Brown County, S.D, 1919 he married Mary Flora Brauch. All children were born in S.D.1930 Census, in Yankton, indicated that he was a salesman for a publishing company. The family were strong Catholics and were involved in the community.
