Durrant was born May 21, 1913, to Joseph and Leanore Durrant in Salt Lake City, where he was raised. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating in 1941 with a law degree from Boalt Hall.
In 1941, he married Eva Mae Brigham, and they established their home in the Bay Area. Durrant joined the Army in 1942 and served as a lawyer. Following his discharge in 1946, he and his wife moved to Quincy, where he started a private law practice.
Durrant married again on September 19, 1974, in Reno following the death of his frist wife. He and his second wife, Nellie, lived in Durham.
The Durham resident enjoyed reading, music, dancing, golf and playing the organ. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion, SIRS, and the Grange.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie of Durham; a daughter, Linda Turner of Manchester, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Nel Paganini of Durham and Karen Addison of San Francisco; and seven grandchildren.
