Elihu Samuel Abbott, 79, of Crapo passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Robbins on July 14, 1929 and was the son of the late Arthur T. and Inez North Abbott.
Elihu attended schools at Robbins, Crapo and in Cambridge. On October 31, 1950 he married the former Doris Parks. Elihu was a avid father and outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, camping, trapping and fishing with his family and friends. He worked mainly as a waterman and a heavy equipment operator most of his life although, he held many other positions from a FRA with the University of Chicago, Mate on the Maryland Governors Yacht, Explosives Tech, Salvage diver, Gunsmith and a Barber. He won the worlds Muskrat skinning Championship eight times and was credited with developing the modern two cut method of skinning. Elihu served 30 years with the Maryland National Guard 29th Division. He was Past Master of Cambridge Lodge #66 A.F. and A.M. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife the former Doris M. Parks of Robbins, his children Bruce Abbott and wife Kathy of Taylors Island, Brenda Holotik of Linkwood, Sheila Jones of Church Creek and Elihu Abbott Jr. and wife Robin of Town Point, grandchildren Tori, Cheyenne and Dakota Abbott, Helen Foxwell, Tara Holotik, Lucas Jones, Mindy Jones, Jeremiah and Colt Abbott, great grandchildren Macy and Maddie Foxwell, Thomas and Samuel Holotik, Liam and Elise Jones and Nevaeh Cannon and a brother Theodore Abbott.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Bounds United Methodist Church in Robbins, MD. Burial will follow at Sandy Island Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Memorial Contributions to Bounds United Methodist Church c/o Alma Robbins, 3155 Robbins Rd., Crapo Md. 21626. Pallbearers will be Richard Dawson, Wayne Simmons, Payton Hurley, Rudy Robbins, Lucas Jones and Jeremiah Abbott.
