Breif History
Ellis Yancy Roberson and Minerva Dulcinea Gregory made their home on Walnut creek in Madison County North Carolina. They had twelve children. In 1906, Ellis and Minerva moved their family to Spartanburg County South Carolina. The family lived at Glendale community, Spartan Mill, Inman Mill, and Arcadia.
Lillie died in 1912 and In July of 1915, Ellis died of Pellagra. In 1917, Willard was killed while on guard duty on local railroad tracks. Ellis and Willard are buried next to one another in Arcadia Cemetery.
After Willard's death, Minerva moved to McDowell county North Carolina. Here she purchased 600 acres of farm land. In October of 1920, Minerva married C.Shuff Baily. After his death in 1936, Minerva started using the Roberson family name again. In March of 1956, Minerva moved to Greenville county South Carolina to live with her grandson Maxie Thomas Robinson(my family). It was here that she died in April of 1956.
The spelling of the last name in the family bible is "ROBERSON".
The spelling on Ellis Yancy's and Willard's graves is "ROBERSON". It is not known when the spelling was changed to "ROBINSON".
Son's Howard, Burgin, Thomas Columbus, John, and Sam spelled and pronounced the name "ROBINSON".
Thomas Columbus was my grandfather.
Minerva's burial site is Cross Mill Cemetery, Marion North Carolina, McDowell
county. She is buried next to her son Thomas Columbus Robinson. The marker on her grave has her last name spelled "Robinson".
