SALVO - Alfred "Chief" Smith Pugh, 76, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006. He was born in Dare County, NC to the late Nancy Pugh Austin.

Mr. Pugh was a retired chief engineer with the NCDOT Ferry Division and was a veteran having served in the Korean Conflict where he earned several medals of honor.

Mr. Pugh is survived by a brother, Wilton R. Pugh and wife Madelyn of Baltimore, MD; two nieces, Bonny Kuklica and husband Jim of Virginia Beach, VA and their children Amber and Aaron Kuklica and Lynda Davis and husband Richard of Springfield, VA and their two sons.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Inez Payne.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, July 28, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Clarks Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Susie Fitch-Slater and the Rev. Stafford Berry. Burial will be in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, NC is in charge of arrangements.

SALVO - Alfred "Chief" Smith Pugh, 76, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006. He was born in Dare County, NC to the late Nancy Pugh Austin.
