Catherine was the daughter of John Edward DERR and Carrie Ellen SNYDER, and was born in Barry Township. She had two brothers: Harry & Monroe; one sister: Ida who married Ralph Wolfgang; and a foster brother: Marlin Kimmel. Marlin was the much younger cousin of Catherine's mother, Carrie (Snyder) Derr. Carrie's mother was Kate Allis (Wagner) Snyder, sister of Marlin's mother, Lilly Agnes (Wagner) Kimmel.
Catherine was married to James M. BERNER on September 26, 1950 at St. John's "Kimmels" Lutheran and Reformed Church in Barry Township, Schuylkill Co., PA. She and Jim were the parents of one son and three daughters. Their daughter Jane Marie passed away in 1973.
Catherine's maternal grandparents were Michael F. SNYDER/SCHNEIDER and Kate Alice WAGNER (Kate Alice was the daughter of John Z. WAGNER & Sarah BIXLER).
