Loyd Franklin Diehl, 85, of Harrisonburg, passed away July 5, 2011, (Tuesday) at Oak Lea at VMRC, where he had lived for the past eight years.
He was a son of the late Clark D. and Nora Roadcap Diehl. He was born on Oct. 24, 1925, in the Goods Mill area.
He attended Victory Hill School and dedicated his life to his work and hobby, farming. Mr. Diehl was a lifelong member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren near Port Republic.
On May 14, 1950, he married the former Beulah Lee Ray, who preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1988. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kim Diehl of Harrisonburg and Linden and Debbie Diehl of Port Republic; five grandchildren, Krystal Diehl of Grottoes, Heather Diehl of Port Republic, Austin Diehl of Port Republic, Derek Diehl of Harrisonburg and Clint Diehl of Port Republic; one great- grandson, Kayden Diehl of Port Republic; and a special friend, Naomi Higgs. Loyd was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Diehl, Harry Diehl, Lynwood Diehl and Nelson Diehl, and three sisters, Catherine Diehl Craun, Nancy Diehl Lam and Alda Diehl Good. A memorial service will be held in the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren at 7 p.m. Saturday with Pastor A. Lee Kinsey officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private. Kyger-Pence Funeral Service of McGaheysville is entrusted with the arrangements.
Because of Loyd's wish to give to the church, memorial contributions may be made to Mill Creek Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 7600 Port Republic Road, Port Republic VA 24471.
