Rufus Cleveland Blair

Long time La Porte resident Rufus Cleveland Blair, 90, died May 27, 2007 at his home in Deer Park. Viewing is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, at the Paul U. Lee-La Porte Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church where he and his family have been parishioners for over 30 years. Following services, he will be laid to rest at 2:15 p.m. at the Houston VA National Cemetery. R.C. Blair was born September 18, 1916 in Throckmorton, to Rufus and Sarah Blair. He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1937 and married Annabel Lee on May 24, 1944 at Camp Pickett, Virginia. Born and raised a true Texas, he grew up in the small town of Throckmorton, where he graduated and later attended barber school. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during WWII. After his discharge, he was employed by Shell Oil Company for 25 years, retiring in 1974. He devoted his life in caring for his wife, Ann, of 63 years, his five children, and all acquaintances whose hearts he touched. When not working or caring for his family you could always find "R.C." on Galveston Bay doing what he loved most--fishing with his buddies. He is survived by his wife, Annabel Blair; his son, Cleveland Blair; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Victor Goforth, Becky and John Hartman, Barbie and Richard Parker, Wendy and Terry Short; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his sister Ruth Jackson of Throckmorton and other relatives.
