US Congressman. Born on a farm near Stromsburg, Nebraska, he graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1901, from the University of Nebraska in 1903 and was clerk and recorder of Polk County, (1906-09). He was Mayor of Osceola, Nebraska, (1908-09), a member of the Nebraska House of Representatives, (1911-18) and engaged in agricultural pursuits. In 1927, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventieth Congress, served until 1929, reelected to the Seventy-second Congress, serving (1931-33). After his term he was a representative and adviser in Agricultural Adjustment Administration (1933-36), a member of the Nebraska Legislature, (1937-38) a special adviser in the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, (1939-48). He died at age 82 in Washington, D.C.
