Cyrus served in the Navy from the age of 16 until after World War 2 ended. He was Chief Petty Officer aboard the U.S.S. Lexington, aircraft carrier. In a book about the Lexington, he is mistakenly listed as having been on board when the craft sank, after a battle in the war. He served in Okinawa, and was based in San Diego, California and ultimately became Chief Warrant Officer. In 1950, he began attending school on the G.I. bill and became a Chiropractor. Later, he continued his education and became a Naturopathic Physician, and had the largest practice in the United States during the 1960's. He retired in 1982. He is survived by his children, Lonnie Maxfield, Marilyn Maxfield King, Jeffrey Cyrus Maxfield, and Jodi Maxfield, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
