Australian Swimmer. She was Australia's first great swimmer. During her 15 year career, she broke at least 11 world records, and competed in distances up to 100 yards to a mile. In 1912 she won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1920 she was getting ready to defend her title at the Antwerp Games but fell ill. She later turned to coaching and then retired shortly thereafter.
