Obituary Ralph W. Cook, age 77 of the Hanging Dog community went home to the Lord, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, NC.

Ralph was the son of the late Oliver and Nola Mae Dockery Cook and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Helen Nix Cook. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Ralph was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and served as a communication specialist. He was also a self employed textile mill which allowed him to travel the world.

He is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Diana Owenby and husband, Ronnie of Arden, NC and Brenda Sawyer and husband, Kenny of Murphy; three grandchildren and their families; grandson, Wayne Owenby and wife, McKenzie and daughter, Moriah of Murphy; granddaughters, Christina McMinn and husband, Jason and their children, Jason, Cain, Cecil and Jorgia of Arden, NC and Valerie Carter and husband, Derek and their children, Drake and Jenna Carter of Hayesville; three brothers and their spouses, John and Betty Cook of Walnut Grove, AL, David and Carol Cook of Hamond, IN and Jim and Blanca Cook of Holbert, IN; five sisters, Mary Lou Coleman of Columbus, MS, Betty Minahan and husband, Bob of Flagger Beach, FL, Doris Walker and husband, Ralph of Boaz, AL, Shirley Johnson of Moorehead, KY and Lassie Bauser and husband, Ronnie of Murphy, NC; brother in law, Herbert Nix and wife, Ann; sister in law, Irma Killian and Katherine Pierce and husband, Bill; several aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Tom Leatherwood and Roger Reardon will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post, #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73, Hayesville American Legion Post 532 and Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers will be grandson, Wayne Owenby and nephews, Jason McMinn, Jason Beasley, Bob Minahan, Jason Thomas, Ronnie Bauser and Jim Nix. Honorary pallbearers will be Cain and Cecil McMinn.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
