Mr. Fikes was born in Stonewall, MS and had been a resident of the coast for most of his life. He retired with 23 years of service as Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He served in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Fikes attended Big Ridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D.L. and Carrie Fikes, a brother, Russell Fikes and a sister, Willie Gray Rogers.
Mr. Fikes is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cynthia Ammons Fikes, of Vancleave; two daughters, Patsy Dew and her husband, Buddy, and Shelia Smith and her husband, Buck, all of Quitman, MS. two sons, Don Fikes and his wife, Sarah, of England and J.G. Fikes of Vancleave; six grandchildren, Laurie Burress, Renee Jones, Kristi Murray, Ryan Smith, Karalina and Angelica Fikes.
Private graveside services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Big Ridge Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family would be greatly appreciated.
