VIRGINIA BEACH - Bobby Warburton Jones Sr., 79, died Monday night, Feb. 28, 2011. He was born in Norfolk April 12, 1931, to D.D. and Letitia Harris Jones. A graduate of Staunton Military Academy and The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, he served as a second lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. Bobby survived his parents and his three older siblings, Thomas H. Jones, Letitia Walker and Elizabeth Pierce. Bobby was predeceased by his wife, Terry Spicuzza Jones, in 2009. He is survived by his son, Robert Warburton Jones Jr. and wife Kristi of Virginia Beach and their children Sarah, Robert, and Gregory; his daughter, Amanda Jones Chambers and husband David of Raleigh, N.C., and their children David and Luke; stepsons, William Baird Spicuzza of Virginia Beach, and his children Taylor and Morgan, and James Anthony Spicuzza and his wife Chris of Wilmington, N.C., and their children Jones and Harrison. He is also survived by his former spouse, Josephine Gaither Jones. Bobby led D.D. Jones Transfer and Warehouse Company for more than 40 years from 1955 to his retirement in 1996. He relished the growth in his business and the comradery of the maritime community. He was a firm believer in the value of service, friendship and the two martini lunch. He loved fishing whether surfcasting at Hatteras or trolling from his boat out of Rudee Inlet. He also enjoyed his backyard wildlife. Bobby's children wish to thank all those in his extended family who supported him over these past challenging years: his vigilant and loving neighbors in Croatan, his many friends, his second family at Mary's Restaurant, and his DaVita Dialysis team who cared for him for nearly 10 years. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Albert G. Butzer III in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation at 740 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
