Cyril Baxter "Dink" Mann, age 95, of Tuscumbia, passed away at his home Tuesday, June 28, 2011. The family will receive friends and family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary, with the Rev. Barrett Long and Brad Green officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.

Mr. Mann was the son of William Finley Mann and Vera Mae Livingston Mann and was born on the family farm near Belmont, Miss., on Jan. 22, 1916. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Vernice Moody Mann.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia for more than 50 years. Mr. Mann served as a deacon and trustee working in other areas of service for his church. He was a Shriner, a Mason, a World War II veteran and was retired after 40 years with Reynolds Aluminum. For eight years he served as business agent for the Aluminum Workers Local No. 200.

Mr. Mann was one of the first signers of the Certificate of Organization for Listerhill Credit Union in 1952. He served in a leadership capacity for 57 years as the Credit Union's first president and later as chairman of the board of directors, as a volunteer. He lived and practiced the credit union philosophy "People Helping People." His leadership has been recognized in credit union circles at all levels. He was named Alabama's first "Volunteer of the Year" and was recently added to the Hall of Leaders at Credit Union House in Washington, D.C. At the age of 90, Mr. Mann was recognized at the World Council of Credit Unions meeting in Dublin, Ireland, for his diligence in organizing Listerhill Credit Union.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Scates Mann; daughter, Iris Mann, Douglasville, Ga.; son, Cyril Baxter Mann Jr. and wife, Anne, of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; stepdaughter, Jane Anne Scates Carlton and husband, David; granddaughters, Delery and Iris Mann; stepgrandsons, Tony Benjamin Lovett and wife, Sasha, and Andrew Carlton.

Pallbearers are Sammy Richardson, Randy Simpson, Bryce Tidmore, Charles Hester, Nello Kelsoe and Jerry Wages. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of First Baptist Church, members of the Shubie Sparks Bible Class, Leonard Holcombe and the board of directors of Listerhill Credit Union.

He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
