She and Charles Lawrence Abercrombie were married June 6, 1906 in Archer City. He died June 21, 1960. She joined First Baptist Church in 1901 and was the longest continuous member in the church's history. She served as church historian form many years, was a founding member of the Women's Missionary Union and was its first secretary. She also was a member of the Amity Club, which she had served as president. She contributed to many civic charities and activities, including Bethania Regional Health Care Center.
Survivors include a daughter Freda Abernathy Comegys of Wichita Falls. Two brothers, Ben Powell of El Paso, Texas and Graham Powell of Cheyenne, Wyo,; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandsons.
