Evelyn was born in Pittsburg, Camp Co., Texas, the daughter of Rev. Thomas Daniel and Sara Wakefield McCrary. Her father was a Methodist Minister and she grew up around Gilmer, Texas, with about 10 siblings. She enlisted in the military during WWII and that is where she met her husband Herb.

She married Herbert T. Bonnes 17 Mar 1946 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They lived in Milwaukee for a while where he was employed by Brown and Bigelow. In 1947, they moved to Hudson,Wisconsin, where he was employed by the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad in St. Paul until 1956. Herb went to work for Sperry-Univac and they remained in Hudson the rest of their lives. Together, they raised two daughters.

On a personal note, in 1967, my husband and I being newly married, decided to move North from Texas. Herb and Evelyn were his aunt and uncle through Evelyn's side. We needed a place to stay until he could get a job and home. Herb and Evelyn welcomed us and were so very gracious to us. They more or less adopted us as 2 more kids and we all spent a lot of time together while living in that area of the country. They became surrogate parents and we loved them very much. We moved away but returned to Hudson for two visits. Also, Evelyn visited with me in Texas. She loved Texas and missed it through the years.

Evelyn loved to cook and was a great cook in her on right. However, she had missed the Texas food she grew up on. We traded many recipes and I cooked for her many times when we were there. We spent hours talking late into the night and playing vicious games of Yahtzee. I adored her. A good wife to Herb and mother to Linda and Laura and a funny lady. My aunt by marriage and a loving friend.

Rest well my dear friend....
