ELAM, Billy Joe "Bill," 72, of Chester, Va., died Thursday, September 24, 2009. He was born May 27, 1937 in Dante, Va. to the late Arthur and Annie Elam. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Elam; one stepdaughter, Cheri Warriner and husband, Joseph Warriner Jr.; two daughters, Vicki Basore of Zionsville, Ind. and husband, Michael, Sabrina Capronigro of Columbus, Ohio; one granddaughter, Sharon Benton; three grandsons, Shawn Warriner, Colin Orr and Ian Leach; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Benton; two sisters, Kaye Harr and husband, Sam, Violet Kelley; several nieces and nephews. He retired from Liphart Steel Co., Inc. in 1999. He was a deacon at Webber Memorial Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer, loved sports and telling jokes. He coached Little League baseball for several years and served one year (1972/1973) as president of the Richmond Chapter of International Management Council. He was a member of the Masonic Chesterfield Lodge # 161 since 1983. The family will receive friends 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday at Webber Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Webber Memorial Baptist Church at 7800 Salem Church Road, Richmond, Virginia 23237.
