Margie Marie (Shook) Barnes, a resident of the Qualls community, went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2011. She was born Oct. 15, 1918, to Robert (Dan) Shook and Daisy Ardella (Smithson) Shook. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 13, at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church, with Pastor Allen Nolan officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Ron Kindell, Tommy Baker, Bobby Musgrove Jr., Alvin Watts, Johnny Houghland, and Nick Mahoney. Interment will follow in the White Oak Cemetery at Qualls, Park Hill, under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Margie married "Tom" Thomas Barnes on Oct. 20, 1934, in Cherokee County. They had 11children: daughters Wanda Carter and husband, Dr. Donald Nicholson, of Hutchinson, Kan., Sue Hendricks of Shattuck, Gonza Randle and husband, Randy, of Rolla, Kan., and Daisy Hall, Debbie Melton, Anita Lightcap, and Linda and Dr. Kirk Boatright, all of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and sons, Houston and Jalaire of Jay, Sam, Bob and Lisa of Qualls, and Perry Jordan and wife, Billie, of Qualls. She is survived by 34 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 24 great great-grandchildren and a host of precious nieces and nephews. Margie is preceded in death by beloved husband Tom, her parents, one brother, one sister, onw daughter, two grandsons, two great-grandsons, one great great-grandson. Margie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to bake, and she knew everyone's favorite cake or pie – her specialty. When anyone stopped by or came for an extended visit, they were always welcomed into her home. Margie had many hobbies, quilting and traveling werer among her favorites. She had a love for fabrics, and delighted in choosing fabrics and making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Margie made a quilt for each child and each grandchild plus many others. In her travels she enjoyed the beach, whether on the east or west coast. She especially enjoyed visiting her siblings in California and vacationing around the country with them. In 1948, Margie and Tom moved with their children to Kerby, Ore., where Tom worked logging timber until they could afford to farm and ranch in Oklahoma. They lived briefly in Wyoming and Dodge City, Kan., but always returned to the Oklahoma farm where they lived more than 65 years.
