Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Union Army as a Private in Company B, 10th Kentucky (Union) Volunteer Infantry. He enrolled in the regiment on October 12, 1861, and was mustered into United States service on November 21, 1861 at Lebanon, Kentucky. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia on September 1, 1864, where he captured the flag of the 6th and 7th Arkansas Infantry. His Medal issued on April 7, 1865.
