Emily May Caster McCarty, 87, of West Lafayette, died at University Place on Tuesday, February 09, 2010 at 2:35 a.m.

Born May 31, 1922 in Covington, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Gleason Caster. She was raised in Willoughby, Ohio and graduated from Willoughby Union High School. She graduated from Purdue University in May 1943, where she studied Biology.

Her marriage was to Morris Jordan McCarty on August 13, 1943 in Willoughby. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2003.

Mrs. McCarty was a homemaker. She was a parishioner at Church of the Blessed Sacrament. She was the former recording secretary for the Purdue Alumni Association, a member of the John Purdue Club, Catholic Women's Study Club, Monday Club, Roundtable Club, Lafayette Country Club, and a 65 year member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She loved reading and traveling, especially in the Southwest.

Surviving are three sons, William McCarty of San Francisco, Michael McCarty (wife, Martha) of Carmel, IN, and Jay McCarty (wife, Michele) of Lafayette; two daughters, Colleen Reader (husband, Kelley) of West Lafayette and Laura Andrew (husband, James) of Lafayette; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Caster and a sister, Elizabeth Swanbeck.

Visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Cathedral, Father Daniel Gartland officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Book Cycle. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
