Douglas Ray Cox, 39, of Orem, UT died March 15, 1996 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, 1996 in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, Orem. Burial was in the Orem City Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW District #4.
He was born Dec 23, 1954 in Fruita, CO to George W. and Shirley Rae Gardiner Cox. He married Vickey Wheat in June 11, 1973 in Springville UT.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1974. He worked for several construction companies in the area. He was employed by Springville City for a short time. In 1978 he started working for the city of Orem. During his 15 years of employment there, he experienced two serious accidents resulting in two bilateral hip replacements. Doug was always proud of his job and had great pride in all he accomplished. He was recognized with many awards and many letters from citizens. Doug had a great love for fishing and deer hunting. The yearly hunt became a family tradition after each of his sons turned seven months old.
Doug was very intelligent and could do anything he set his mind to. He found much satisfaction and contentment beautifying his yard and gardening. His passing will be a tremendous loss to all the loved ones he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed and remembered for the courage, the strength, the determination and ability to endure great trials.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Vickey and two sons, Shane R. Cox and Cody J. Cox all of Orem; his parents, Welby L. (Jim) and Shirley Turpin of Salem, UT; three brothers , one sister and three step-brothers, Bruce W. Cox, Levan, UT; Laura A. Brown, Las Vegas; Larry G. Cox, Salem, UT; Jack "John" W. Shumway, Pleasant Grove, UT; David L. Turpin Payson, UT; Dennis L. Turpin, Winsor CO; Kenneth L. Turpin, Orem.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Temperance Evans and Joseph N. Gardiner of Orem.
