Entered the first Officers Training Camp at Fort Oglethorpe, GA, 13 May 1917, was commissioned 2nd Lieut. 15 Aug 1917, and assigned to Camp Jackson, SC. He sailed for France on 6 Aug 1918,was wounded in action overseas (37th inf., 93rd Div. Regmt, AEF) and rec'd from the French govnt. a Croix de Guerre. He returned home on 11 Feb 1919, was sent to Camp Lee, VA and discharged there on 25 Feb 1919. The same year he came to Chattanooga and accepted a position with the United Hosiery Mills Corp., of which he is now vice-president and superintendent.
